R.O. Ranch: Mayo’s Equestrian Paradise

With 2,500 acres of unspoiled wilderness and miles of trails, R.O. Ranch in Lafayette County gives horse enthusiasts reason to cheer.

The visitor’s center at R.O. Ranch is still under construction, but three trails are open, including the Steinhatchee Trail, a 6-mile jaunt that ends at the scenic Steinhatchee Falls.

The 5-mile Home Trail is suitable for novices, with an exciting but entry-level water crossing, while the Swamp Trail is geared toward more-experienced riders. The River Trail, a 3-mile path, is suitable for wagons, as well.

Riders need a free special use authorization before riding at R.O. The permits, as well as a downloadable trail map, are available on the park’s web site. SUAs are also available at the Suwannee River Water Management District office at the corner of CR 49 and US 90 in Live Oak.
