Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park: The Beginning of Blooming Season!
Alfred B. Maclay Gardens is located right on the outskirts of Tallahassee, and offers year-round opportunities for visitors to experience outdoor Florida. The Park offers many different activities that should not be overlooked (see this post for details!) including several hiking trails, canoeing, swimming, fishing, and five miles of biking trails. However, it is the gardens themselves that steal the show.
One of the best things about the gardens is that you’re free to choose your own adventure. There is really no set path that you must keep to, and wherever you go, you’re guaranteed to see something beautiful, whether it is the reflecting pond, the secret garden, or the lake overlook, even in the dead of winter there is always something to see. This month, visitors will be delighted to see the camellias in bloom all over the gardens.
Blooming season for Maclay gardens just started on January 1st and will continue through April 30th. During blooming season, the Maclay house is open to the public, and guided tours of the gardens are available at 10:30 am on Saturday, and at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm on Sunday. There is an additional fee of $6.00 per person to access the gardens during blooming season, but it is well worth it, as the gardens were designed to be at their peak beauty during winter and early spring. More information including directions to the park can be found at the park website.
