Explore Econfina in Taylor County
It’s spelled E-C-O-N-F-I-N-A, but the locals in western Taylor County call this river and State Park on Florida’s Big Bend, “Eco-feeny”. But despite this confusion caused to visitors, the end of County Road 14 (off US98) offers lots of opportunities for folks wanting to see Florida “as it used to be”.
Expect to see all sorts of wildlife, including birds of prey and manatees, near the boat ramp or just upriver by canoe or kayak.
The Park is small, and offers restrooms and a nice boat ramp. There are also nice views of one of Florida’s most pristine dark-water rivers. The Econfina River empties into the Gulf of Mexico about 2-1/2 miles dowstream from the park, and the Econfina River Resort offers lodging at motel rooms, private homes as well as R/V hookups.
And if you’re a cyclist, consider some of the local off-road trails or make the 28-mile road bike trail from Perry.
