Florida’s Big Bend Anglers to Benefit From New Rules for Spotted Seatrout

Essentially, what this means to our Gulf coastline (in Levy, Dixie, Taylor, Jefferson and Wakulla Counties) is that the February closure has been eliminated.  Now, anglers fishing from Yankeetown, Waccasassa, Cedar Key, Suwannee, Horseshoe Beach, Steinhatchee, Keaton Beach, Econfina, Spring Warrior, St. Marks and Panacea have an extra month to fish.  February has traditionally been a great month of ‘gator trout’ fishing, but anglers were unable to keep their catch.  And while there have been some changes to the regulations affecting the commercial catch of seatrout, I don’t think those changes will make much of a difference in our area.  Recreational bag limits will remain the same:  5 fish total, 15″ minimum size and one fish allowed over 20″.
