Don’t have a boat? Give Cedar Key’s fishing pier a try!
You may not catch a grouper or a king mackerel from the pier, but its location on the south end of town and its proximity to some deeper water makes it productive–and fun–for the boat-less angler. It’s free, has bathrooms and is close to town and parking. You’ll likely catch inshore species like ladyfish, black drum, red drum (redfish), whiting and in winter months, some nice sheepshead. A few items to be sure to take along are a stout rod and reel (Just in case a whopper comes by and eats your bait!), a supply of sinkers, some hooks and some bait. I recommend live or frozen shrimp, which are available at Doug and Wendy Rains’ tackle and bait shop just north of the Jiffy Store on your way into Cedar Key.

I WILL BE THERE OCTOBER12 TILL THE 14. WANT TO GO FISHING ON THE PIER OR OTHER PLACES. LET ME KNOW THE HOT SPOTS . THANK YOU
Nick…there’s also a pier near the Florida Fish and Wildlife office on the Number 4 Channel, just north of town. It’s adjacent to the boat ramp. You might also try the shoreline just before you get to the Cedar Key airport. It’s a good high tide spot, but parking may be a problem.
will be coming there on vacation is the fishing pier dog friendly
Steve….not really sure, but I suspect that if your dog is leashed and well-behaved that no one will complain!
Can you catch sharks on the pier? and is there bait fish around the pier that can be caught by a cast net like mullet, pinfish and greenbacks?
Thinking about riding to Cedarkey,,Can anyone tell me what time the Cedarkey Public Pier and pier at the Florida Fish & Wildlife Office is open, Also I heard some of the bridges going in to Cedarkey on 24 are good spots,,Please please let me know,,I am an old lady and I NEED FISHING THERAPY!!!!!
Can you crab off the fishing pier?
Tom….I suppose you could crab off the pier, but the current may be too strong. A better bet might be over at the Number Four fishing pier.
Thanks Tommy Thompson, I’ll check into the Number 4 fishing pier. Can you tell me where it is located? That would be great.
What about crabbing
